Inner labia growth and swelling

Hi I am only 17 years old and for past idk how many months I've been noticing that my inner labia is swollen or idk if it is like a lump or sm but it does not hurt or cause any discomfort and also the same side that is swollen also is bigger in length than the other side .Idk why this is happening and I am kinda scared to go to the doctor. Please help me.

  • Hello and thanks for your enquiry,

As nurses, we can't tell you exactly what this is. What we can comment on is that any cancer in someone of your age would be very unusual. Vulva cancer is usually seen in much older women, and is in fact an uncommon cancer.

Your labia can vary in size from left to right side and this isn't uncommon or unusual. You may have some skin inflammation or an infection there. You can also get blocked skin glands (cysts) that cause lumps there.

Try and use non perfumed PH balanced skin care products in that area. Also, don't shave or wax that area for now, if you do, as this increases the chances of some skin reactions and local skin infections.

If you are worried, then do book to see a GP, you can ask for a female GP. You can also ask to see your GP surgery practice nurse, as they do smears and are able to advise you about worries like these too.

    I hope this reply helps,
