Cervix - abnormal cells removed last year but I've been having some abdominal pain in the last few weeks. Should I be concerned?

Hello,

I had some abnormal cells removed at the end of October I have high risk HPV. In the last few weeks I have had some lower abdominal pain (it’s nothing serious) just a bit of a dull pain that I notice when I’m sat down. It’s not period pain as it’s quite constant.

I’ve been to the gp and explained and she checked my cervix and said it was a bit red but wasn’t concerned.

I just wanted to double check it wasn’t something I should be worried about. After the procedure I am feeling more anxious about things.

thank you so much,

  • Hello Charlotte and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear that you are feeling anxious about your health.

It is difficult to give an opinion without being involved in your care.

There can be many reasons for the pain to occur but we can't diagnose you and if it does continue then do go back to your GP. The pain in the abdomen is probably unlikely to be connected to your red cervix. Your GP seemed unconcerned about your slightly red cervix so try not to worry.

It may help to have a look at your diet and what you are eating to see if this has an effect on the pain you are experiencing.

We have tips on our website about what is a healthy diet which you might find helpful to look at. It can also help to take regular exercise such as walking each day. The NHS have produced some information called walking for health.

We would always say if any of your symptoms don't go away do go back and see your GP or another GP in the practice for a second opinion.

I hope you feel better soon.

    All the best,

    Catherine
