Escalated BEACOPDac

Tomorrow I'm heading to the hospital to get my picc line. How painful is it?

and Tuesday I'm having my first infusion, I have classic Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Anyone have experience on what to expect? I spent hours researching on my own but maybe here I can get a better insight

  • Hi there Lorena81 and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your situation and appreciate you hoping to hear from others who have been through similar to you.

I hope the picc line insertion goes okay for you today and as you start your chemotherapy later this week.

Times like this can be unsettling not knowing what is to come but try and take things one step at a time if you can. The doctors and nurses involved in your care will explain things to you along the way but do ask them any questions you have as well.

There is information about picc lines on the website so do take a look at this section. The person putting in the picc line will use a local anaesthetic to numb the area where the picc line is to be inserted into the vein so it shouldn't be painful, do however let them know if it is uncomfortable.

Once again the chemotherapy nurses should have given you information about the chemotherapy drug regime you will be having and how, when and where these will be given to you. On tuesday again the nurse looking after you will tell you everything they are doing step by step to make sure you are fully aware of what is going on. There is more information about chemotherapy for hodgkin lymphoma and BEACOPDac specifically on the website.

Some practical things that may help make things a little more easy for you during your chemotherapy sessions is to wear comfortable clothes and make sure they have easy access to the picc line area. Sometimes there is alot of sitting around waiting and having your treatment so do take a book, a crossword, magazine or anything you might enjoy to occupy your mind and help pass the time. You may also wish to take some headphones to listen to music an audio books and so on.

As I said do ask the team involved any questions you have and share any concerns you have before or during treatment with them so they can keep a close eye on you and how you are managing the treatment.

I hope this helps but do get back if you have more questions, if you prefer give us a call on 0808 800 4040, we're here weekdays 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best

    Naomi

  • Thank you Naomi, appreciate all the details and thorough information.

I had my picc line and the doctor was brilliant, really funny and I barely felt it.
