Dad has stage 4 colorectal cancer with lung and liver mets, which is incurable. in 2024 he had success with his primary round of chemo, and remained stable from October that year for a good 9 months or so before symptoms returned. He's now having a second round with a different drug, but is suffering from weight loss this time. He's only had two sessions so far, and was recently admitted for an iron infusion - so the family suspect that the low iron could well have increased the rate of weight loss. I guess I'm just concerned that having lost a total of two stone since he was originally diagnosed, Dad will continue to go downhill quickly unless his weight stabilises somewhat. He does eat but portion size is not at all what it used to be and he often just 'doesn't feel like it'. Dad is very clued up on nutrition and knows all the right foods to eat, but he can't bring himself to take in the calories in the first place. I reckon this is Cachexia. What I would like to know is, what treatment is available for these symptoms and whilst I know that the cancer will never go away, I at least want Dad to be able to eat a bit more and enjoy food again so he is not suffering. It is so incredibly difficult seeing him so thin and frail. Best, S xx
