Camera up bottom

Do I have to be sedated or can I have tablets

  • You can, I had to drive so I couldn't have sedatives, managed with gas and air, bit uncomfortable at times when camera going around corners but I didn't really have a problem

  • Hello Hoty, and thank you for posting.

I’m sorry to hear that you need to have a colonoscopy. Waiting for tests and results can understandably feel stressful.

During the procedure, you’ll usually be offered intravenous sedation or, as PCFC mentioned, gas and air (Entonox). Oral sedation tablets aren’t commonly used, but the endoscopy team will confirm the options available on the day.

If you choose intravenous sedation, you’ll need to arrange for someone to accompany you home afterwards, as you won’t be able to drive. You can drive if you opt for Entonox only.

I hope this helps, and I wish you all the best with your upcoming colonoscopy. Please feel free to get back in touch if you have any further questions.

    Jemma
