24 / Inflammatory Breast Cancer? Left breast tissue feels different, thicker and painful, no lump

Hi I am hoping i can get some reassurance or guidance.

2 weeks ago I began to feel sharp and stabbing pain intermittently within my left breast. Even slight knocks from my partner hugging me or from my own arm just repositioning myself, i would feel a pain that made me shout ouch!

I am very small chested A cup, i have never accidentally knocked my breast with my arm. This is when i have a feel and realise there is MORE there, my left breast has gotten bigger. More tissue, feels thicker, some hard bits/firm bits/soft bits.

There is more thicker tissue travelling up towards my armpit, or so it feels.

I want to note i have never had breast pain/aching/issues/lumps/cysts.

I have been to GP (02/02/26) she was great and said to come back on two weeks on (16/02/26). But tonight i am experiencing more breast pain, had a feel and there are more little hard bits in my breast. at first it felt like one little stone, now it feels like there are many. Going closer towards my armpit.

Should i go back sooner than the two weeks? I’m scared of Inflammatory breast cancer.

  • Hello and thanks for posting

Although breast pain isn't usually a common symptom of breast cancer, it is often caused by something much less serious such as hormonal changes, inflammation, cysts, or enlarged lymph nodes, even if you’ve never had problems before. Inflammatory breast cancer is rare and usually causes redness, warmth, skin thickening, and swelling of most of the breast rather than lots of small painful lumps, so try if you can not to over think things for now.

Because the pain and your symptoms are increasing, it is a good idea to go back to your GP for further advice if you can get an earlier appointment.

They may consider referring you to the breast clinic for further assessment. It's important to say that the majority of women who are referred to the breast clinic do not have breast cancer.

Breast Cancer Now has information on what what to expect at your appointment when you’ve been referred to a breast clinic.

I hope everything turns out to be okay. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
