Zolendronic acid infusion and long term side effects. I'm in so much pain

Morning nurses .

Any information on long term side effect of this drug would be very helpful to me I’m in so much pain it’s just awful.

thank you so much

  • Hi, I’ve had two of these infusions now. After the first I was unwell and did struggle with pain. I just had my second one a few weeks ago and was a lot less unwell but have had no pain or anything like that. No side effects as far as I can tell after the second one.

  • Hi there maggie_1234 and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about the pain you are experiencing since having zoledronic acid, it sounds like you are having a really tough time of it.

Whilst zoledronic acid can cause muscle and joint pain this is usually short lived and managed with pain killers such as paracetamol and ibuprofen. It is rare to experience long term because of this drug, however it can sometimes occur and that is why it is important to let your doctor know about this pain so they can help you to best manage it.

There is information about zoledronic acid and its side effects on our website so do take a look at this.

Do speak with your GP or specialist team when you can to get their guidance on easing this pain for you.

Do get back in touch anytime and if you prefer to give us a call on the helpline the number is 0808 800 4040, we're here weekdays 9-5.

I hope things start improving for you soon.

    Take care,

    Naomi
