I'm sorry a recent CT scan showed that your mum has a shadow in her lungs, and I appreciate that this must be a worrying time for you both.

A CT scan can show something abnormal but not always what it is. Whilst cancer has to be ruled out as a possibility there could be other reasons for the shadow in the lungs such as infections, inflammation or scarring, or benign lumps ( non cancerous).

Doctors have regular MDT meetings and they do discuss patient cases even when it’s not cancer. So your mum being discussed at one doesn’t definitely mean she has cancer. They come together to get several expert opinions before deciding what to do next.

No one can tell you what this is until all your mum’s test results are known. I know it’s easier said than done but try and take it one step at a time until you both know more. Some people find talking it through with family and friends and keeping busy can sometimes help.
