Malignant melanoma stage 3 2/2 positive lymph nodes

Hi, thank you for creating a safe space. I was diagnosed with a malignant melanoma in Sept 25. I had wide excision surgery and sentinel lymph nodes removed on Dec 8th 25. I now have my results and even though my consultant diagnosed stage 3A. After meeting with him this week, he has said there is no trace of melanoma left from the wide excision site, however both nodes removed from my groin come back positive after lab results, but, he sounds reassuring as these have been removed. I am having a full body CT scan and Head MRI on Friday, because of positive lymph nodes, but his words to us were, ‘oncology are not interested in you as the melanoma cells were microscopic and encapsulated by the lymph nodes’ still a very scary time though. I feel like after waiting for these results and then meeting with him that I want to celebrate but also so apprehensive about these upcoming scans! Sending so much love to every one of you on this forum. A club nobody want to be a part of xxx

  • Hi there Kimbo82 and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your situation and appreciate how unsettled you feel following the results from the lymph node.

Times like this can be difficult but try and take things one step at a time and wait for these scans to be done.

Decisions about treatment are usually made by a team of specialist doctors looking at all the information they have to guide the next steps.

I am sure if they think you need or would benefit from more treatment such as immunotherapy they will recommend this for you. As I say sit tight as best you can for now and see what the doctor says at your next appointment.

Do remember to ask any questions you may have to your specialist nurse or doctor to get the best understanding of your situation.

We are also here for you as and when you need us and the helpline open weekdays 9-5 on 0808 800 4040 if you prefer to speak over the phone.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
