12 months plus post chemo and seem to catch every bug around. Is there anything I can do to boost my immune system?

Since having surgery and chemotherapy in 2023/2024, I will catch every bug around.  I do work in a school and try my best to hand santise, use first defence and echinacea but without, seemingly, any effect.  Is there anything else I can do to boost my immune system?

  • Hi HGI,

I am so sorry to hear this. Have you spoken to your specialist nurse, care team or GP? These are the people who are in the best place to advise you about products to boost your immune system.

    Kind regards,

  • Hello and thanks for posting

Cancer treatment especially chemotherapy can weaken the immune system for a long time, sometimes years, and working in a school can put you in contact with a lot of viruses.

Your immune system should improve over time. There’s nothing that you can specifically take to speed up this process, but eating a good diet, getting enough sleep, and exercising regularly can all help.

I see you’re already using hand sanitiser. You might also want to think about avoiding close contact with unwell children where possible, and regularly open windows for ventilation. Some people choose to wear a mask during any viral outbreaks.

I hope this is of some use. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,
