Breast screening

Hi, really sorry to be posting this.

I had my routine breast screening a few weeks ago and received a letter today giving me an appointment to attend for my results.

It doesn’t mention a recall or further tests, just a results clinic appointment, which has left me feeling quite confused. I assumed if something was wrong I’d receive a recall/assessment letter instead.

Has anyone else received a letter like this after screening, and if so what did it turn out to be? I’d really appreciate hearing others’ experiences. Thank you.

  • Hi Mia-p787 and thank you for your post.

It’s understandable that you feel confused by the letter.

A results clinic appointment does not always mean something is wrong. Some breast screening units like to talk through results in person, even when the results are normal or only need a simple explanation.

They may have found a benign (non-cancerous) lesion which still may need treatment.

Breast Cancer Now have more information about the different breast conditions on their website.

The best thing to do is to go to the appointment, where the staff can explain everything clearly and answer any questions you have.

If you are feeling worried, you could also call the number on the letter. They should be able to tell you more about why the appointment has been made.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support

It might help to talk things through with one of our nurses on the helpline. You can call for free on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

    Kind regards
