Re-excision - still numb after 9 hours

I had a SCC removed from my hand in November and a re-excision earlier today.  I was told the anaesthetic would last for one to four hours but nine hours later my thumb is still completely numb.  I'm not sure about the unexposed areas as my hand is heavily bandaged but I am not feeling any pain or soreness in the excision site as yet, but was at this stage the previous time I had the procedure.  Am i worrying unnecessarily?  Thank you.

  • Hello and thanks for your enquiry,

I hope that you have either had the numbness resolve, or that you have made contact to seek further medical advice about the numbness.

Just to say that unfortunately, the nurses are not available to respond on the forum after 5pm on weekdays, and not at weekends.

We would suggest that anyone worried about acute health concerns contact their GP or hospital team, or ring NHS 111 who can help direct people to medical advice.

I hope that you are doing well now,

    Kind regards,

    Vanda
