Extremely sore mouth

My last Chemotherapy was on 08th Jan and at the same time, I came down with a throat infection which has now gone to my chest. I refused to go to A+E because of a horrendous stay early December, I managed to get my doctor to prescribe antibiotics and I'm finally on the mend, although I still have a terrible upset tummy and nausea.

The inside of my mouth is so sore, I have spots on my tongue and I have a cold sore on my lip, Is there anything I can use to ease it, to make it more comfortable to eat? Thank you!

  • Hello Ash7678, and thank you for posting,

I’m sorry to hear that you’re still experiencing side effects and a sore mouth, especially after recently completing your chemotherapy. Even when treatment has finished, some side effects can take a while to settle, and this sounds very uncomfortable for you.

Are you taking anything for the pain at the moment? Some people find they need stronger pain relief, such as morphine-based medication, to help manage mouth soreness.

It would be a good idea to have your mouth assessed by a doctor or your specialist team. They can check for any signs of infection or oral thrush and prescribe the right treatment to help ease your symptoms. If you have a specialist nurse you can contact, they may also be able to offer advice. Otherwise, arranging an appointment with your GP would be helpful.
