Lump inside the vagina

I gave birth 4 months ago and around 6 weeks pp I felt a lump inside my vagina, I didn’t think much of it maybe a cyst of some sort from trauma. I forgot about it but last night I felt the same lump, still the same size - pea sized lump, hard to touch I tried to pinch it to get a guide on how big it is, no pain, no other symptoms from that area, the lump is as you go in and sort of downwards to the right. I was also HPV high risk positive for the last two years and awaiting results from my last smear to see if it’s cleared. Can anyone shed some light? If it was from trauma would it have cleared by now? I’m going to attempt to get into my doctors and have it checked but I can’t seem to find any advice online.

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I can appreciate your concern. Lumps inside the vagina tend to be cysts or blocked glands. After birth, ductal cysts (Gartner's duct), can occur in the vaginal birth canal. You can also get Bartholin's cysts from a blocked gland. It's not likely to be related to HPV or smear tests.

It makes sense to ask your GP to do a pelvic examination and they can advise you further.

    I hope this helps,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
