Bowel prep

Hi

I have a colonoscopy on Wednesday. I have to use PLENVU. I was advised that I only need a low fibre diet from Tuesday morning. Every thing else states from 3-5 days before. Hospital say this is right? Have you heard this before please? As I am worried it’s wrong. Thanks

  • Hello and thank you for posting,

I’m sorry to hear that you’re due to have a colonoscopy.

You’re usually advised to follow a low‑fibre diet for 1–3 days before the procedure, although this can vary depending on the hospital or endoscopy unit where the test is being carried out.

I wasn’t sure who you had spoken to at the hospital, or whether this was a non‑medical member of staff. If you haven’t already, it may be helpful to speak directly with a member of the medical team, such as an endoscopy nurse or doctor, to clarify exactly how you should prepare. The hospital switchboard should be able to put you through to the endoscopy unit or day ward.

I hope this information is helpful, and I wish you all the best for your upcoming test. Please do get back to us if you have any further questions. If you’d like to speak to one of our nurses on the helpline, we’re available Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm, on Freephone 0808 800 4040.

    Kind regards,

    Jemma
