Arm pain after lymph node removal and lumpectomy

Hi, I had my op 3 weeks ago I am doing the exercises provided is it normal that my arm down to my elbow is more tingly almost burning sensation and that I have what feels like a hard lump under my armpit. Should I push on with the exercises even though it's more painful now?

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

You asked about discomfort after exercises for breast surgery. Burning pain can indicate that some small nerve endings are a bit irritated. The lump you describe can be swelling after surgery as the area starts to heal. General advice is if an area or lump becomes more sore, red, or hot, then seek medical advice in case of an infection. It might be helpful to reduce the exercises for a day or two, to allow the nerve pain to settle a bit. If the sensation returns the same, when you resume the normal level of daily exercises again, then do make contact with your breast team or the hospital breast team physiotherapist, for a steer and feedback on the exercises that are best for you.

I hope that your recovery goes well,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
