Testicular ultrasound

Hi, I recently put a post out explaining my issues and worries.

I just wanted to ask a nurse for some advice.

I'm going in for a physical examination for my testicles, I haven't discovered a lump or any particular changes to the testicles. But I have got myself worked up because I've checked so much and forgotten what normal feels like, so having a doctor check will help.

Should I expect them to refer me for a testicular ultrasound, I'm having alot of scan-anxiey surrounding it and wanted to know, what is the process, how long will I wait for results, will they call me or book me a face to face if somethings wrong? I really don't think I'll be able to cope with the anxiety if I have to wait this long.

Are there any benefits of seeing a private urologist for this, or is it a bit extreme considering I haven't found anything.

I am just really really worried a doctor is going to find something and I might have cancer, but my anxiety is stopping me from wanting to find out.

Can a Nurse offer some advice and clue me up on the processes of getting my testicles checked, even when I can't find anything myself.

  • Hello JmJm and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear that you are feeling anxious about your health. It is good that you are seeing your GP and you can hopefully talk this through with them.

I am not sure if they don't feel a lump whether they will refer you for an ultrasound but you can ask.

You may find the information on movember how to check your testicles helpful to look at.

Testicular cancer is a fairly uncommon cancer so try if you can not to overthink it for now.

Anxiety about health can be exhausting. There are various websites that you may find helpful to look at to help manage how you may be feeling.

There is an NHS charity called Every Mind Matters and AnxietyUK which you may find helpful to look at.

I do hope that your visit at the GP goes well and they are able to put your mind at rest,

    Best wishes,

    Catherine
