Fit test

> 400 ug/g ↑ [<10]Quantitative faecal immunochemical test

Had a calprotectin test that's come back normal.  But my fit is above high.

What does this mean? Dad and paternal Grandmother had bowl cancel I've had polyps 9 years ago didn't get a call back for a colonoscopy they missed me off! So I'm extremely concerned as I've had constant diarrhea for 2 weeks previously really constipated now I'm constipated again.

  • Hi there Mollie67 and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about the symptoms you have and the tests you are undergoing. This is understandably an anxious time for you but try not to let your thoughts run away with themselves for now.

There can be many reasons for a positive FIT test and most are unrelated to cancer however it is only a colonoscopy that is able to take a closer look at the bowel to find out exactly what the cause may be.

As I am sure you are aware calprotectin is a measure of inflammation in the bowel a higher reading may be suggestive of an inflammatory bowel condition. But there are cases where people can still have inflammation without a raised calprotectin level.

Try and take things one step at a time, what needs to happen next is the colonoscopy that will be able to give the most accurate information about what is going on.

I hope you know more soon but please get back in touch or give us a call if you prefer on 0808 800 4040, we're here week days 9-5 ( closed new years day).

    Best wishes

    Naomi
