Endometrial biopsy inconclusive

I haven't heard anything since having a hysteroscophy due to post menopausal bleeding. I was taking tamoxifen after having a lump removed from my breast.I have since been given an alternative treatment but my oncologist has suggested I go back to gynecology as he saw that my biopsy was inconclusive. He said in a small number of cases the tamoxifen can cause endometrial cancer so it needs checking. Is there a simple blood test which would put my mind at rest. I have asked my GP to chase up my follow up appointment. The biopsy was done in September so I don't get what the hold up is.

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation. Hopefully you will hear from the gynaecology secretary if your GP is following this up.

There is a blood test called the CA125. It can be raised in certain gynaecological cancers but it can also be raised if there is any inflammation in the pelvic area which is why it is never used as a test on it's own.

I do hope that you find out more soon. if you would like to ring and speak to one of the helpline nurses then you are welcome to give us a ring. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
