Unusual vaginal bleeding. My GP isn't much help and I'm at a loss of where to turn to next

Hi ive never wrote this anywhere so im sorry if its TMI im just at a loss where to turn to next.

For about 2 years now ive been anaemic and on daily iron tablets, im 42 and possibly in peri menopause but I have had heavy periods for about 2 years too and after alot of back and toing I have now been referred to a specialist but the wait time is months, ive also been having urine infections on and off and abdominal pain, I bleed sometimes from the vagina when passing a stool but not often, I have had scans on my bladder both externally and internally and all looks fine however this past week every time Ive gone for a wee or poo and wiped my vagina there has been a pool of blood on the tissue and in the toilet bowl,  im extremely fatigued and feel pain and heaviness in my lower abdomen, its really worrying as I know my periods are causing the low iron and now this is happening along with the abnormal tiredness and its worrying me alot, I sent in a urine sample to my gp this morning and thats clear.

Please can someone advise me on what might be going on for me and help me with how to word things to my gp because he isn't much help and over the last 2 years we've just gone round in circles to the point I can feel that he can't be bothered getting to the bottom of what's going on for me anymore ( i should add i have a b12 difficiency due to my body not absorbing, restless and painful legs, Fibromyalgia and barretts esophagus)

Thankyou in advance for any advice

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

I'm sorry that you are having these symptoms, it must be hard feeling like this and not knowing why. Peri menopause can cause lots of the symptoms that you are talking about, like heavy, irregular periods, urine infections and fatigue. However it is important that other things are ruled out.

I have here a link for you to read through to help you make the most of your GP appointments. Talking them through all of your symptoms will help them decide if further investigation is needed.

Doctors are the only people who could say what might be the cause, so making another appointment, maybe with a different GP might help you feeling heard.

Take care and if you want to talk things through with the nurses on our helpline the number is 0808 800 4040. Lines are open Mon-Fri, 9-5. We are closed on Bank Holidays.

    Sarah.
