Tongue biopsy

Hi, i had a biopsy taken from the side of my tongue 6 days ago. The pain was really bad once the local anaesthetic wore off. The following morning the stitches on the surface had come out and for 2 days I felt good. On day 3 my tongue started bleeding at night and became painful again (only at night) so I saw a doctor who told me that was normal.

I have continued with the salt water skills but I'm in a lot of pain again today. Any advice would be great as I really don't want to make another trip to the hospital (I'm s wheelchair user)

  • Hi there and thanks for the post

I hope that the pain is improving for you now and that you are taking pain relief as and when you need it.

It can take a while to heal over, especially as the mouth is in constant use. If you are concerned however by the way it looks or feels do speak to the unit you had the biopsy taken or your GP so they can examine it again.

I hope it get better for you quickly and you find out more about the situation soon.

    Take care

    Naomi

  • I've realised that my tongue rests on my teeth overnight as I can only lie one way in bed due to disability. I decided to sit up last night and it only bleed once. I have also upped my salt water swills.

    Thank you
