Vacuum assisted excision

I had a biopsy done in September and now have to go for stereo guided vacuum assisted excision in January. I had no real pain or discomfort after the biopsy but the last couple of nights I have had really bad sharp pains in the area where the lump is when I’m in bed. What could be causing this and should I be worried?

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I can understand your concern. Sharp pains tends to be from a muscle strain, or irritated nerve endings. You may have without knowing strained the area where you had the procedure done. Take some simple painkillers, and maybe wear a supportive soft bra when you sleep for a few days to help it settle. Occasionally, it can be a sign of a breast infection or abscess, so if it gets worse, or feels hot and sore, then do seek medical advice about it. Give it a few days to settle and try to reduce any heavy lifting, or exercises, on that side. If it doesn't settle, then seek further medical advice.

I hope that it resolves soon,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
