  • Hello Dee 3176 and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your dad. I can understand that this must be a difficult time for your family.

It is difficult without being involved in your dad's care to say very much but I am sure that his doctors will be conscious of the damage to his liver in planning any chemotherapy treatment. I am sure that his doctors will be looking closely at his blood results particularly his liver function tests and kidney blood tests as they will indicate how well his kidneys and liver are working.

His doctors maybe looking at other treatment options if they don't think that chemotherapy is an option. If chemotherapy is given they may give less and then I am sure his blood tests will be closely monitored.

Your dad's doctors are the best people to advise you about what his next steps should be. Every case is treated very individually. If you have your dad's permission then you could talk through any concerns that you have with his doctors.

There is a charity called The Swallows which offers support and information on patients having treatment for head and neck cancers. It is for patients and relatives.

If you would like to talk any of this through with one of the helpline nurses then you are welcome to give us a ring.

The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
