Absolutely Terrified!

Hello

I have been referred for an urgent colonoscopy, and been sent information from the hospital advising a Specialist Colorectal Cancer Nurse will be contacting me by phone on Thursday.

Any idea why a cancer nurse would be contacting me if I haven't officially been diagnosed with cancer (yet?)

Many Thanks

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear that you are having a colonoscopy. The colonoscopy specialist nurse will be ringing to explain the procedure and what is involved.

They will be talking to patients who are having a colonoscopy to hopefully rule out cancer. The cancer nurse talks to patients who have cancer and those patients who are having investigations as to why they have symptoms but don't necessarily go on to develop cancer.

You may find it helpful to read our information on our website about having a colonoscopy. Once you have read through the information you will have a better understanding of what is involved.

    I hope this helps.

Do give us a ring if you want to talk things through.

The number to ring to speak to one of the helpline nurses is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
