Fast appearing mole from raised to flatter

Hello

M y husband has had a mole appear on his head. It has appeared and grown in a matter of weeks. It’s pink ish and it was round and raised. Nurse said she’d refer to dermatologist but could be some time. Now (days later) it has almost deflated and become a bit less equal in shape with slightly jagged edges. It looks a little crusty at the edge. Should we get another opinion and ask for dermatologist appointment to be expedited?
Thank you.

  • Yes, I think that you should get another opinion.  It is better to be safe than sorry.  Good luck.

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

I am sorry that your husband has these concerns about a mole.

If he feels it has changed dramatically since it was last reviewed then he could make an appointment with his GP to be reviewed. They may ask him to send a photo in.

If the dermatology referral has been done you will hear from the hospital about an appointment, you could then take this appointment with you to the GP to let them know when it is. They can comment about whether they feel the level of waiting time suits the changing mole.

Dermatology departments have the difficult job of triaging all skin complaints, which can be of many different degrees of urgency. There are also varying degrees of waiting times across the UK to be seen.

Take care and I hope things get sorted for your husband soon. If you want to talk anything through then do call the nurses on 0808 800 4040, lines open mon-fri, 9-5.

    Sarah.
