Armpit and breast pain

Hi I started to have pain under my armpit around 4 weeks ago and it occasionally goes into my breast, I got checked out by my gp and he said I had lumpy tissue under my arm, I had axillary breast tissue removal under my armpit 10 years ago and there is quite a thick scar so he's not sure if it's something to do with the scar tissue or something else, he started me on antibiotics incase it was an infection and ive completed my antibiotics and dont really feel any different, still painful, he's referred me to the breast clinic on a 2ww cancer referral and im petrified, im only 29 and have a young family.

  • Hello and thank you for posting. I am sorry you that you are going through this.

It is normal for doctors to refer patients with lumps in their chest and armpits on the urgent pathway into the breast clinic. This is expected and not because they think you have cancer but because they want to find out for you quickly what is the reason.

There are many other reasons, that are not to do with cancer, that can cause breast pain and lumps, more information about these on this website.

It is important to know what is the cause for you, but waiting for scans and appointments can be hard. Hopefully you have someone you are able to talk things through with but if you want to speak with the nurses do call 0808 800 4040. Lines are open mon-fri 9-5.

    Take care,

    Sarah.
