Lymphoid hyperplasia and can feel a lump

Hi

I’ve been experiencing the feeling of a lump in my throat at the back of my tongue and I can feel it with my finger. This was missed on MRI and ultrasound. I was told I had lymphoid hyperplasia and they left me to it.
I have a history of lymphoma and I feel this is a relapse.
I have a strange feeling in my tongue and back of throat I have swollen lymph nodes on that side and also pain around my ear and neck.

I have an ultrasound on Tuesday and FNA of the lymph node. ideally I want the lump in my throat to be seen and felt but I feel I’m going to be fobbed off again. The lymphoid hyperplasia should be biopsied but they are ignoring me.
I’m absolutely petrified this is cancer again and I’m not being heard how can I get to the bottom of this and make them listen to me

  • Hello and thank you for posting

I am sorry that you have concerns over a lymphoid hyperplasia. These are not generally linked to cancer as they are very common when someone has had an infection or virus on board that the bodies immune system is fighting.

Usually if the doctors who report on the scans are concerned, particularly if the person has a previous medical history, they would have flagged any findings that needed further investigation.

From your post I understand you have an FNA and ultrasound today, so I hope this goes well.

If once this is done you still remain concerned do discuss this with your GP. Or, if you are still under the hospital for your lymphoma do get in contact with your hospital team.

Take care and if you want to talk anything through with the nurses then do call 0808 800 4040, lines open mon-fri 9-5.

    Sarah.

  • Hi,

thank you for replying, today they decided not to do the FNA and said my lymph nodes looked fine although one was 1cm x 2.6cm which to me is concerning given my history. Is a lymph node that size usually left it smaller 8 weeks on last ultrasound
I’m seeing a ENT consultant on Thursday and I’m hoping he can help me.
the lymphoid hyperplasia in the throat is growing by the day I can feel it with breathing etc.

I’m aware it can be lynphoma and My history of lymphoma concerns me.

I need some form of treatment for it I just don’t know what that is.

    thanks again for replying
