Secondary bone cancer

I've recently been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and Secondary Bone Cancer and I'm undergoing further tests and have started Hormone Treatment. My question is should I be in pain. As of yet I don't have any symptoms related to my condition. I'm not in any pain other than having lower back ache which I've suffered with most of my life due to having Psoriasitic Arthritis. Thank you for any advice and knowledge regarding the above.

  • Hello David F and thanks for posting

Many men with prostate cancer that has spread to the bones don't always experience pain straight away. Pain can develop if the cancer is affecting certain areas of the bone or causes pressure on the nerves. Some men can go a long time with no symptoms at all, especially once hormone treatment has started, because this aims to slow the cancer down and can relieve or prevent pain.

I see that you have have suffered with lower back pain for years because of your psoriatic arthritis. Do let your specialist team or GP know if your back pain changes such as if it becomes sharper, or pain moves to another part of your body, or if you develop any weakness, numbness or have difficulty with walking.

I hope this helps. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
