  • Hello Sesspot and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about the burning sensation that you are having.

We do have a page on our website about radiotherapy side effects. It is not unusual to get burning side effects that can happen further down the line. I would either get in touch with your GP or your specialist who may want to prescribe you some medicine to help manage these side effects. it would be also a good idea to have a chest examination so they can give their opinion on what may be causing these symptoms.

There is a condition called costochondritis. This is inflammation where the ribs join the sternum (bone in the middle of the chest).

It can help to try and increase your fluid intake, eating smaller meals and avoiding any acidic type foods such as strong curry or spicy foods. It may also help to sleep more upright.

I do hope that these symptoms settle down as I can imagine it must all be very uncomfortable for you.

If you would like to ring and chat through any of this with one of the nurses on the helpline then you are welcome to do so.

The number to ring is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
