Oesophagus cancer

Hi. My husband went for a endoscopy on Monday - we were told they have found cancer. Now waiting for MDT team to contact us & histology results. Referral sent to MDT was put down as urgent.

This wait for someone to contact us, is horrible.

Can anyone tell us - how long will they take to contact us?

  • Hi Luna 74, and thank you for posting,

I’m sorry to hear about your husband’s diagnosis. Waiting for updates can understandably feel stressful and cause anxiety.

The MDT (multidisciplinary team) meeting is an important step in planning treatment. It usually involves specialists such as surgeons, oncologists, gastroenterologists, radiographers, and nurse specialists who work together to decide the best approach for your husband’s care.

Although we’re not involved in your husband’s hospital, most people usually hear back within a few days after the MDT meeting. If your husband has been introduced to a clinical nurse specialist, they are often the best point of contact for updates and support.

If you’re concerned about the wait and have the name of your husband’s consultant, you could contact their secretary to ask when you might expect to hear from the team.

Please feel free to come back to us with any further questions. If you’d like to speak with one of our nurses, you can call our helpline on 0808 800 4040 between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Jemma

  • Thank you for replying.

We still dont know the consultants name. We feel we have been left to 'just wait' for a call. Its so frustrating not knowing what is going to happen.

A long weekend ahead for my husband & the family!
