Ovarian cancer

Hi,

Had 2nd surgery on 3rd of November. Just 2 days before I turned 45. Had full extraction. I hope that  cancer is gone now.Finding very hard to sleep.I thought flushes will come later, but I am experiencing them during the day and can't sleep at night...Cold sweat and hot. Don't know much about hormone therapy. How it will affect my body weight and mood? Thank you

  • Hello and thank you for posting

Following a total hysterectomy it's common to have symptoms, such as hot flushes and sweats, and difficulty in sleeping as your hormone levels drop suddenly. This can feel quite intense for some women.

You can read more on managing menopausal symptoms on Macmillan Cancer Support's website.

Some women naturally gain weight during the menopause, and some choose to take hormone replacement treatment ( HRT) to manage their symptoms. HRT replaces the hormones the ovaries are no longer producing and can ease the hot flushes, improve sleep pattern and steady your mood. It doesn't usually cause weight gain.

Ask your cancer doctor whether HRT is suitable treatment for you. It has benefits and risks, so it is important to talk it through with them before considering taking it.

I hope this is of some use. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
