Referral to breast clinic - what will they do there?

During a GP. Appt and breast  examination, my GP said she wanted to refer me to the breast clinic. What might they do, bcos the GP, she found no lumps. But I have quite bad pain and tenderness in my right breast and around side and under arm.

I've absolutely hellish deep pain below shoulder blade and upper right back and round to side towards breast. The right side of upper back is keeping me awake for. Past, 5 nights and I've had the weird burning stinging and sometimes sore sore breast for over 4 weeks

She says they are likely not connected the breast and back She's given me. Cocoadmol because my back is dreadful and brufen makes me wheezy. But so far the Cocoadmol just seems to have given me a racing heart.

  • Hello Yellowduster and thank for your post,

I am sorry to hear about the pain you are having. It is good that you have been referred to the breast clinic where they will be able to perform an ultrasound and perhaps a mammogram. Often a GP will refer a patient not always because they suspect cancer but because they want to find out the cause of someone's symptoms.

Breast Cancer Now have produced some information about What happens at a breast clinic appointment

Most women who are referred to a breast clinic don't have cancer but it is always good to have anything serious ruled out.

Try if you can not to over think it for now.

Do give the nurses a ring if you would like to talk things through. The number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
