Christmas with Cancer

Hey,

I’ve recently had a diagnosis and due to start treatment before Christmas. I’m hoping for chemo first rather than radio combination but awaiting oncologist on this (confirming this week).

Just wondering how anyone has found celebrating the festive season when having treatment?

I’m 30, love sparkle season, I really want to still look and feel the same. Any tips to feel normal despite everything going on? Even the little things like having a tan on, eyebrows and lashes done etc. I’m not even sure whether this is safe?

I guess I’ll learn more as things progress but would appreciate any help x

You go for it. Everything that makes Christmas for you. Dressing up making yourself look good. Christmas decor Partying. If you start chemo you may need to alter your Christmas menu to lighter foods. If you drink alcohol you may want to have a little less. Treatments continue over Christmas if its on your schedule. Treatments can also make you feel tired so pace yourself and have a rest if required. Other than that have a great Christmas.

  • Hi there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to her about your recent diagnosis and that you are due to start treatment soon.

Hopefully others on here will jump in and share their thoughts on how they have or are intending to do Christmas this year whilst having treatment.

Until you know exactly what treatment you are having it is difficult to say how you may be feeling over the festive period.

I can appreciate you wanting to be able to do all the things you normally do but you may need to make some slight adjustments along the way.

Some treatments such as particular types of chemotherapy and targeted treatments can sometimes affect the skin and hair. This may mean that having a tan or false eyelashes may not be such a good idea this year.

Once you know what you are having you can ask the team involved about what you can and can't do in regards to beauty treatments and skincare to help you plan ahead.

This can't be easy for you but I am sure you can still manage to find a way to add some sparkle and enjoy this time of year.

You know where we are if you have more questions and if you would prefer to give us a call please do. We're here weekdays 9-5 on 0808 800 4040.

    Wishing you all the best
