After Surgery for stage 2b melanoma. Worried about some symptoms I'm having although GP doesn't seem overly concerned

Hi

I was diagnosed with melanoma stage 2b. A week ago I had a wider local excision and sentinel lymph node biopsy. Almost everyday ive felt sick I don't seem to have a temperature but I have had the shivers my GP doesn't seem overly concerned. I have alot of swelling and pain in the ground im presuming this is normal?. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thankyou in advance.

Emma.

  • Hi EmmaB22,

I'm not a nurse - they will be along shortly - but I have been a melanoma patient for several years & I've had several surgeries & infections. I've popped onto your post to suggest that you contact your Clinical Nurse Specialist asap & tell them about your swelling, pain, nausea and shivers as it may be an indication of an infection of your wound. They will hopefully call you in so they can check it & give you antibiotics, if required. Good luck & I hope it settles down quickly & your adjuvant drug treatment goes well.

  • Hi there Emma and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear you aren't feeling quite right after your surgery. Whilst you have spoken with your GP I think it best if you speak with your hospital specialist team so they can assess you.

It isn't unusual to notice some swelling and discomfort after surgery but the shivering and nausea may be a sign of infection so best to get it looked at to be on the absolute safe side.

I hope you start feeling better soon.

    Take care

    Naomi
