Lentigo Maligna

I know that Lentigo Maligna is pre cancerous ...and the surgeon was going to perform slow-mohs on mine ...but decided that it would be too invasive. I recently had it operated on ...on my face ...but an infection set in ...and 20 stitches had to be removed, the wound injected and irrigated ...then was given intravenous antibiotics ...it was SO painful ....and I found the experience very traumatic ...although felt fine until the infection set in ..the experience ...2 days ago has left me feeling quite traumatised ...and scared ....and I don't feel like going out, or seeing anyone ...and it still hurts when I talk and eat . ..although the infection has subsided ...I feel really sensitive and vulnerable now, emotionally ...is this normal after an infection? ... I would be so grateful if you can reassure me that I am not just being stupid for feeling this way post op ...

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I’m sorry to read about what has been happening.

Surgery, having an infection, needing stitches removed and having intravenous antibiotics is a lot for anyone to cope with, and it's understandable you're feeling shaken, vulnerable and reluctant to go out and see people right now. Many people feel this way after a painful or frightening medical experience. These feelings usually settle over time as you recover physically and emotionally.

The important thing is to be kind to yourself, get enough rest, and talking to someone you trust can often help. If you find that your emotions are not improving or are getting worse, then do speak to your GP. They can arrange some support services for you.

I hope you start feeling better soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
