Highlights and radiotherapy

Hi, I recently had a lumpectomy for a very small cancer lump in my right breast. . Although all was removed I am due to have  5  days of radiotherapy mid December. I already had an appointment booked for next week (4 weeks before radiotherapy) to get highlights in my hair before I got my diagnosis and ask if it's safe to still do so.
Thank you

Debbie

  • Hello Debbie and thanks for posting

Having your hair highlighted is usually safe after breast surgery. Highlighting products are applied to the hair and scalp so they don't affect the breast area. Radiotherapy is aimed only at the breast, and it doesn't also interfere with colouring your hair.

If you've any skin sensitivities you might want to speak with your breast care nurse or GP just to double check. But in most cases, people do go ahead with highlighting/ colouring their hair without any problem.

I hope this helps. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
