Womb / endometrial cancer symptoms

Hi

I’ve had sporadic spitting the last few months. I’m through menopause and haven’t had a period for about 3 years.
my GO has been great and put me on the 2 week pathway.
I had a transabdominal ultrasound on Saturday. Every is normal.
I’m with gynae on Wednesday, the appointment letter allow up to 2 hours if they want to do a hysteroscopy.
my question is. Will they want to do it if my scan was fine, or could the scan miss something. There was no evidence of the lining thickened, cysts , fibroids etc

I was convinced I had cancer, but now feel a little silly. Would appreciate anyone’s similar experiences, views or advice ️

  • Hello and thanks for posting

Most menopausal spotting is caused by harmless things like vaginal thinning or small polyps, and the risk of cancer is low when the ultrasound looks normal.

However, sometimes an ultrasound scan can't show everything in fine detail, especially small changes inside the womb lining or the cervix. The gynaecologist may still suggest a hysteroscopy as it lets them look directly inside and take a sample if needed, just to be sure.

I hope this is of some use. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,
