Bowel MRI

Hi,

I had 2 pelvic ultrasounds last year and 11 months ago I had an MRI with contrast and they injected buscopan. Nothing was found apart from fibroids. FIT tests and bloods all negative. Fast forward to now when I have on and off issues with bloating, pain in ribs and acid reflux. This has been on and off for 4 years with no explanation. Now I’ve had a private FIT test come back with 36 and Calprotectin of 216. I am so scared I’ve had bowel cancer growing for years. I’m waiting for further NHS test results to see if a colonoscopy will be needed. I’m so scared. I have 3 children that need me and elderly parents who rely on me. Would the MRI and previous scans been enough to pick up bowel cancer issues? Many thanks for any advice x

  • Hi there and thanks for posting again

I am sorry to hear about the ongoing symptoms you are having and appreciate the concerns they are causing you.

It is reassuring to hear so far that nothing sinister has been picked up but it is good that your GP is running some more tests just to be on the safe side.

I'm afraid no one here can say what may be causing your symptoms. Symptoms often have several causes and most of the time these causes won't be the result of something as serious as a cancer.

For now you need to try and sit tight and wait and see what these recent tests show and go from there.

Try not to over think things or let your mind run away with itself until you have all the facts.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Naomi

  • Thanks Naomi, just had all my blood tests back which are normal including iron. Slightly raised white cells but other than that seem fine.
