Cyst query

Hi all,

2 weeks ago I had surgery (laparoscopy and hysteroscopy).

I had a small 2cm cyst drained on the left ovary, and I had a large 8-9cm dermoid cyst removed from the right ovary.

I've had pain for the full 2 weeks but it's been getting a bit better everyday, however started bleeding 2 days ago which could be period (I'm on the pill) and haven't had a period for 15 years as I've been on contraception. Since I started bleeding I have a really weird feeling in the right side of my tummy, almost feels like the cyst is still there. When I cough it hurts, when I move I can feel it. Is this normal? Thought maybe it's just swollen inside so I'm getting that feeling.

Thank you!

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

It will take around 4 to 6 weeks to fully recover from your surgery/procedure, and for full healing to take place. It is also possible that your normal period pattern has been temporarily upset from this too. Taking simple painkillers such as paracetamol should help with the discomfort. Obviously, if you continue bleeding for longer than a usual period would, or other symptoms occur, then do seek medical advice from your GP or NHS 111. Try and take things a bit easy for now, not too much bending or lifting, to help the pelvic area heal.

    I hope this helps,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
