Nodule found on lung after voluntary lung scan. Doctor said it would be checked in 3 months time. Is this normal given my history with cancer?

Hi . I’ve been clear of stage 4 DBNHL for exactly 2 yrs , last week I went for a  voluntary lung scan through my GP surgery. My results showed a tiny nodule on my right lung , my doctor told me it would be checked in 3 months time ,  is this the normal procedure with my history of cancer and will my oncologist be notified about the findings of this scan . My anxiety is through the roof at the moment , 3 months seems a long time with my history , I don’t seem to have any symptoms, I.e not loosing weight , no drenching sweats , no problems breathing etc

regards Jill

  • Hi Jill and thanks for the post

It sounds like you have taken part in the lung health check programme and this is the usual follow up procedure for lung nodules found.

I can appreciate your concerns given your previous diagnosis and suggest you talk this through with your doctor to give you some peace of mind. If necessary they can get in touch with your oncologist to notify them as well of this finding.

Generally speaking lung nodules are common and most of the time will be harmless and not cancer. They are monitored to check for change but often don't cause problems for people.

I hope this helps and that you know more soon.

    Take care

    Naomi
