9 Weeks Post Pregnancy Lump in breast

Hi,

I am 9 weeks post pregnancy. I did not breast feed. I have recently found a small movable lump in the upper quadrant of my right breast. Saw GP today. She has referred me to a breast clinic.

I suppose I am wondering if anyone else had similar experiences after pregnancy and found their lump to be benign?

I would also like to hear from those that did end up getting BC after pregnancy.

I've talked myself into thinking I have BC. I hope my post can be a guide for others in a similar position to me.

  • Hello and thanks for posting

Many women do find breast lumps in the weeks or months after pregnancy, even if they haven't breastfed. The majority of times the lumps turn out to be benign things such as hormonal changes, cysts and fibroadenomas. Pregnancy and the changes in your hormones can make breast tissue feel very different for a while.

You've done the right thing in seeing your GP and I see that you've been referred to the breast clinic for further assessment.

You have posted on the ask the nurses section of the forum but you are asking for other users experience of having a breast lump after pregnancy which turned out to be benign. You are also interested in hearing from women who developed breast cancer after pregnancy . Anyone is welcome to reply on here but you may get more response from others who may be or have gone through similar by posting in a different section of the forum as well as here.

I know it’s easier said than done but try and take it one step at a time until you know more. Some people find talking it through with family and friends and keeping busy can sometimes help.

I hope everything turns out to be okay. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind Regards,

  • Hi Celene,

Thank you for replying. That has reassured me slightly that this seems quite common in women just after birth. I am still very nervous as I have a history of cancer in my family (mother) etc.

I will update when I know more. Thank you re the post. I will add to another category
