  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry you are feeling worried about your recent symptoms. I can appreciate waiting to find out what might be the matter is very stressful, and our minds often imagine the worst possible scenario.

Your symptoms may be due to hormone changes due to you possibly being perimenopausal. Your body is naturally changing at your age. Even when you are taking desogestrel hormone levels may change the womb lining causing light bleeding or spotting. Hormonal contraceptives can suddenly cause spotting or light bleeding even after years without bleeding. It doesn't always mean something is wrong, just that your hormone levels may have changed.

It's good that your smear test was clear. Vaginal dryness or fragile tissue around the menopause can sometimes also cause light bleeding.

As your symptoms have been ongoing for the last 3 weeks, it's a good idea to make an appointment to see your GP. They will assess you and they may suggest a blood test to look at your hormone levels, and may consider doing a scan to check your womb lining if this is needed.

I hope everything turns out to be okay. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,
