Diagnosed with breast cancer

Hello, I don't really have anyone to discuss my diagnosis with. Perhaps except my son and daughter.  I want to explore treatment.  I feel lt down by the NHS at the moment as they as my local authority do not want to operate.  I am in  stage 2 at the moment.  Please can you help.

  • Hello and thanks for posting

After a cancer diagnosis patients are discussed within a MDT ( Multi Disciplinary Team) where all the specialists come together to decide the best course of action for each individual patient. The decisions are based upon the type and stage ( size and extent) of cancer and how fit and well they are.

What treatment you will need first usually depends on the individual features of your cancer. Your breast care team should have discussed this with you. You may find it helpful to get in touch with them or your breast specialist nurse to discuss this further.

You can read more about treatment options on our website.

Some people like to ask for a second opinion with another breast oncology ( cancer) team . You can ask your GP or current specialist to refer you. We have some general information about getting a second opinion on our website.

Your breast care team could let you know what support is available at the hospital and locally in your area. You also might find that the hospital has a Macmillan Drop in or a well-being centre where you can get support.

Maggie's centres provides a variety of support for people affected by cancer. The cancer care map also lists local support services.

I hope this has been of some help. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
