Throat cancer concerns.

So ive seen the doctor 3 times and they said they aren’t concerned but ive had a persistent sore throat and lump feeling in my neck and throat for around 2 months. My mouth seems really red and i have a swollen sore bit under my left tonsil…im so worried but the doctors keep pushing me off. Does this sound concerning?

  • Hello Maryk2013, and thank you for posting.

I am sorry to learn that you are having symptoms that are causing you concern.

We cannot say if what you are experiencing is concerning. It is only a doctor who can assess you and say what the cause of your symptoms might be.

It is difficult for GPs to know when to refer someone to the hospital for tests and to see a specialist urgently, and because of this, they have guidelines. I wondered if they are aware of how concerned you are, or if they have said what they think the cause of your sore throat is, if they don't think it is cancer.

I also wondered if it is the same GP you see each time, or if there might be another GP you could speak to.

I appreciate that you have been to see the GP more than once, but now the symptoms are continuing to persist. If you haven’t already, it might be worth asking for a referral to an ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) specialist, who can carry out a more detailed examination.

I hope this helps in some way. Please get back to us at anytime,

    Jemma
