T Vec injections

Hello. I have a very close family member whose melanoma has returned after successful surgery and radiotherapy over 2 1/2 years ago. This time it’s stage 3 and has appeared on the skin graft of the original surgery.
I don’t want to keep asking her questions so can you please give me an indication of the success rate of this treatment? She’s an other wise very healthy 79 year old.
Would it help her if I had a flu injection as I want to stay with her once she’s had the treatment? I’m a very healthy 58 year old who never gets flu though my husband has a ling condition so I’ve had flu injections in the past as recommended around COVID times.
Thank you. Debbie

  • Hello, and thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn that you have a close relative who has melanoma for a second time. This must not be easy.

It is always difficult to say how well someone is going to respond to a treatment, as everyone responds individually; it will also depend on how well your family member is and whether or not they have other health conditions.

On the Melanoma Focus website, there is information about T VEC and how it works. There is also a video that goes through the research and how effective the treatment is, which is presented by a doctor for people affected by Melanoma.

It might be an idea to have the flu jab, as this will be a benefit for you as well as your relative.

I hope the above links are helpful. If you would like to talk things through with one of the nurses on the helpline, we are available between 9 am and 5 pm, Monday to Friday, freephone 0808 800 4040.
