Testicular cancer

A large mass was found via a scan in sons testicle, doctor has told him he thinks its cancer.  Its the size of a lemon, its grown very fast in 2 weeks. Hes now on the cancer 2 week pathway. Hes got other symptoms like pain in lower back and all down his left side. What should we expect to happen now? We know speed is the key to successful treatment but in reality how long could we wait?

  • Hi there and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your son being referred on the suspected cancer pathway for possible testicular cancer. Usually people who are fast tracked are seen pretty quickly, within a couple of weeks.

Firstly an examination followed by an ultrasound are common for testicular lumps. Depending on what is seen they may also wish to perform other imaging scans. If there are concerns or suspicions for cancer they may also plan for surgery, but try and take things one step at a time for now.

There are other things that can also cause testicular lumps that aren't cancer so don't let your mind run away with itself until your son is told all the facts. I hope this is helpful but do get back in touch if you have more questions or give us a call on 0808 800 4040 if you would rather talk about it over the phone.

    Take care

    Naomi

  • He's already had a scan and blood test this morning,  he's on 2 week cancer pathway. Its so worrying,  just left in limbo

  • Hi there and thanks for updating us

It is good to hear your son has had his scan and some blood tests carried out today, it sounds like they are taking this seriously and trying to get answers as quickly as they can.

Unfortunately times like this are unsettling not knowing but it takes time to piece all the parts of the jigsaw together to know exactly what is going on so hang in there.

I hope you both have the support of other family members and friends at this time. People often find that keeping themselves busy and their mind occupied with other things can also help with the waiting.

You know we are here if you have further questions or wish to talk this through further.

    Take care

    Naomi
