- My PSA level is 0.25 8 weeks after operation. Should I be worried. Next psa test is in 3 months. Thank you
Hi Bailymac and thank you for your post.
I am sorry to learn that you have required treatment for prostate cancer.
After prostate surgery, doctors expect the PSA level (a blood test that checks for prostate cancer) to drop very low. Sometimes, the body takes time to settle after surgery, and small amounts of PSA can still show up.
Your doctor has planned another test in 3 months, which is a good way to keep an eye on things. What matters most is whether the number goes up or stays the same over time.
It’s completely normal to feel a bit worried after surgery, especially when waiting for test results.
The important thing is You’re being looked after, and your team will explain everything clearly as they go. If anything changes, they’ll talk you through the next steps.
If you’re feeling anxious, it’s okay to ask questions or talk to your specialist nurse or doctor.
Please get back to us if you need any more information or support. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5 pm Monday to Friday.
Kind regards
Tina
Thank you very much
