Will having a seroma delay radiotherapy

I have had my seroma drained 4 times and it just comes back. The last time was 3 weeks ago. I was told it's best to just leave it now and hopefully it will be reabsorbed.  I have now been given dates for my radiotherapy and am worried they won't do it if I still have a seroma. I have Grade 3 triple negative and my biopsy after surgery showed cancer cells in 9 out of 20 lymph nodes.  Very worried that it might be too late if radiotherapy delayed due to the seroma.

  • Hello and thanks for your enquiry,

Unfortunately, we cannot help you specifically with this, as we are not directly involved with your ongoing hospital care. You would need to ask your hospital team directly concerning this.

Radiotherapy is planned carefully, so they will know the exact area of tissue that they want to treat. The effects of radiotherapy don't tend to occur straight away either, it is usually over some weeks afterwards. If you have a specialist hospital nurse, then do contact them. Otherwise, you may have to phone the clinic, or leave a message with your consultant's secretary for a reply.

    I hope it goes well,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
