Collagen supplements after melanoma removal. Is this o.k?

Hi, recently had a melanoma removed off my arm. Can collagen supplements cause more issues?

  • Hello and thanks for your enquiry,

We are not aware of any specific issues relating to taking collagen supplements and melanoma. Collagen is thought to possibly help maintain tendons and connective tissue as we get older. It may help skin and nails condition, although there is limited evidence of the the actual effect achieved with supplements, as there isn't robust research. As with all supplements, it is thought that natural sources may be better absorbed by the body, than taking supplements. Sources of collagen include fish, chicken, and meat. Vitamin C and sources of protein, helps the body produce collagen, so a daily intake of fresh fruit and vegetables can help with this.

If you are concerned, and/or taking prescribed medications as well, then you can also ask a pharmacist, or a doctor for further advice.

    I hope this helps,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
