Worried bowel cancer

Hello ,

my story so far … I have had haemorrhoids for 25 years  . I had them checked and banded  when I was around 35 . I’m now 54 . So over the last 20 years I’ve just nursed them on as the bands didn’t work . Had another baby in between that time . Bleeding on and off so finally now I’ve had enough of bleeding piles . Also been having gas , what I thought was ibs (I’m an anxious person and stress seems to bring on bowel movements particularly when out and about and travelling in airports) I do get a fluttering feeling in the left hand side of my stomach but I’m never in pain . Do get bloating when had a large meal . I also have an umbilical hernia . Sorry so much information in here so I’ve been referred for colonoscopy now and worried that I may have BC and left it too late . I defiantly have piles as getting treatment for them shortly Going out of my mind really . Any advice I would be grateful for

  • Hello Juju,

sorry to hear your so worried and anxious, I would kindly like to ask you if you ever had a positive FIT test due to your hemarhoids? I only ask because I have had a positive test and I am waiting on colonoscopy to in ten days and feel the same .. very anxious. I’m seeing the doctor tomorrow to have an examination to see if I do have them … been experiencing itching, occasional bleed with bowel movement and soreness.
sorry I don’t have any information with your situation have u done a fit test ? From reading through threads on here it could be numerous things but you do think the worst it’s horrible not knowing isn’t it. X

I’m sorry to hear that you are suffering . My FIT test I had a few months ago was negative and I did one the previous year that I purchased which was also negative . I do have piles which I have been told by the consultant are Piles / haemorrhoids and am going to have treatment on them .  My colonoscopy won’t be for ages yet unfortunately because of waiting lists so I have to just sit and worry ! It’s most likely piles .l you have but better to get it all checked out . How old are you if you don’t mind me asking ?
  • Hello juju1971 and thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn that you are experiencing symptoms that are causing you concern..

Waiting for tests and test results can be stressful and cause anxiety.

I understand in reply to one of the posts that your FIT was negative (no hidden blood in poo), and you are on a waiting list for further tests. If you had a positive FIT (hidden blood was found in the poo), your GP would have referred you urgently to have a colonoscopy to rule out cancer. This does not sound like this is your situation, and it sounds like the doctors do not think an urgent referral is needed.

If, however, whilst you are waiting for your appointments, your symptoms worsen, then do let your GP know.

I hope this helps in some way. If you would like to talk things through with one of our nurses on the helpline, you can call us Monday to Friday 9-5 freephone 0808 800 4040.
